Restorative Yoga
Fundamental stretches for strength, flexibility and stress relief.
Service Description
This class is about longer, slower, deeper holds that re-lengthen muscles and create space in the body. There are less postures to work through, with most taking place on the floor and being held for several minutes at a time. Theoretically, the idea is to spend these minutes in a deep state of relaxation, helping to shift your mind to a more passive state and to balance the body from more energetic exercise such as lifting weights or running. Sessions at the gym are great for increasing muscle mass, but can restrict your range of movement. The very process of building muscle will make you tense and tight. Restorative Yoga targets the fascia and deep muscle. It consists of holding passive positions on the floor for up to five minutes. This promotes flexibility, mobility and a sense of calm. Gentle breath exercises will help you combat depression, anxiety, stress and insomnia, leaving you feeling lighter and refreshed.
